The University of Sydney back to back AUG Champions

At the end of seven days of intense competition, The University of Sydney has emerged victorious, holding onto the coveted title of the 2015 Australian University Games Overall Champion University for a second year.
The Australian University Games attracted more than 8,300 student athletes from 42 tertiary institutions across Australia, competing in 34 sports on Queensland’s iconic Gold Coast.
The University of Sydney stole the show, securing 15 of the 64 gold medal pennants on offer to be crowned winners.
The John White Spirit of the Games trophy, awarded to the university that displays outstanding sportsmanship, fair play and respect for self and others was awarded to The University of Western Australia, who took over the title from West Australian rival Edith Cowan University.
Event partner Bond University kept the Doug Ellis Per Capita trophy for the third year in a row, recognised as the university that has won the most pennants per student numbers.
Australian University Sport CEO Don Knapp is pleased by the level of sportsmanship and high quality athleticism displayed by the student athletes.
"A key aim of Australian University Sport is to enable student athletes to participate in competitive sport at regional, national and international levels through a dual education and sport pathway," Mr Knapp said.
"Student athletes that came to the Gold Coast experienced the highest quality intervarsity competition available in Australia, as well as outstanding sporting facilities provided by the City of Gold Coast."
"Thanks to the support of the Australian Sports Commission, Tourism and Events Queensland, the City of Gold Coast and Bond University, the Games has achieved its highest ever level of participation."
The Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland, is proud to support the Australian University Games as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, showcasing Australia’s best events in spectacular destinations.
Bond University Vice Chancellor and President Professor Tim Brailsford said this year's Games had been a great success and he was proud of the level of sportsmanship displayed by the competitors.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming university athletes from across the country to the Gold Coast, and hope all participants have made the most of their Australian University Games experience," said Professor Brailsford.
"I would like to congratulate The University of Sydney on their impressive result taking out this year's competition, and also offer my congratulations to everyone involved in running the week long, multisport event.
"The Gold Coast's famous weather did not disappoint and overall this year's Australian University Games has been tremendously successful. We look forward to next year's Games in Western Australia."
The Red Bull Campus Cricket National Final was also held as part of the 2015 Australian University Games, with The University of Sydney taking out the title. The Sydney team will represent Australia at the 2016 Red Bull Campus Cricket World Final in Sri Lanka.
The National Final is the pinnacle competition for university cricketers and provides a platform for student athletes to impress the national stage and take their career from campus to international level, creating a legacy for high performing cricketers to reach the international stage.
The Australian University Games will go to Perth in 2016, and will be held simultaneously with the 2016 World University Sailing Championship.
