Background information
The World University Winter Games or Winter Universiade is held every two years under the banner of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Winter Universiade comprises competition in 10 compulsory sports and some optional sports determined by the host. These events are staged in various cities throughout the world.
The compulsory sports contested include alpine skiing, snowboard, cross country skiing, ski jumping, nordic combined, biathlon, ice hockey, skeleton, figure skating and short track speed skating.
Australian University Sport selects teams to represent Australia in the Winter Universiade in consultation with the relevant National Sporting Organisations (NSOs). The Australian team does not necessarily compete in all sports.
