About Australian University Sport

Australian University Sport (AUS) is the peak governing body of university sport in Australia and currently has 42 members, which represents more than one million students. Our head office is based in Brisbane and a number of satelite offices located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and the Gold Coast provide local, regional and national services to our members. AUS has a board of nine to administer and manage the sporting needs for all AUS member universities.

AUS aims to:

  • Foster university sport as a relevant and important part of university life
  • Provide leadership in university sport
  • Provide national policy in relation to university sport
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to participate in competitive sport at a regional, national and international level
  • Lobby and represent, on behalf of its members, the sporting needs of Australia's university students.

Working closely with our members, state and national sporting organisations, Australian University Sport operates regional, national and international sporting programs. This covers over forty sports in championship and games format, including the prestigious Australian University Games, Southern University Games, Eastern University Games, Northern University Games, Western University Games and the Australian University Championships incorporating the very popular Snow Unigames, and Unibattle.

AUS also organises international sporting tours and Australia's participation in the elite World University Games and World University Championships. Any student who is currently enrolled in a degree, diploma, certificate or higher award at an educational institution that is affiliated with AUS is eligible to compete in the sporting program. Brenton Rickard, Dani Samuels, Christian Sprenger, Brooke Hanson and Steve Moneghetti are just a few of Australia’s elite athletes who have competed in university sport, using it as a platform for future sporting success.

Australian University Sport also provides a broad range of supplementary activities and services for its members. These include innovative alliances between corporate and university sport sectors and professional development opportunities, including the annual Australian University Sport conference.
