Sir Weary Dunlop Trophy
Brisbane, QLD
Friday, 1 July 2005

Australian University Rugby Union
vs
Australian Services Rugby Union

History:
The Australian Rugby Union in collaboration with Australian University Sport and Australian Universities Rugby Union is pleased to offer this exciting representative rugby opportunity. The Australian Universities team will once again come together to play Australian Services.

The inaugural Weary Dunlop Trophy was competed for in 1999. On this occasion and each year since, the Australian Universities Team has remained victorious. In 2005 the battle continues between the Australian Universities and Australian Services via a match that will be a stand alone match in Brisbane on Friday 1 July 2005.

The late Dr Sir Ernest Edward (Weary) Dunlop distinguished himself as a Wallaby, and as a doctor with the Australian Imperial Forces. As a prisoner of war in Burma he saved the lives of hundreds of fellow prisoners operating with crude instruments in lamplight. As a player he represented both the University Club in Melbourne, and Commonwealth Combined Services against Britain’s Combined Services. It is fitting that this perpetual trophy honours him.
