Northern University Sport Awards

The 2004 DrinkSmart* Northern University Sport Awards was held on Thursday 25 November 2004 Queensland Turf Club, Eagle Farm Raceway. The luncheon recognised many individuals for their contributions and achievements in combining their university education and sporting career. Awards presented included:

  • Volunteer of the Year

2004 Eastern University Sport Awards

The 2004 Eastern Sports Awards, presented by AUS, were held at The Gallery UTS on Friday 5th November 2004. Adam Spencer kept everyone laughing as Master of Ceremonies, while 2004 Sydney Paralympics Triple Gold Medalist Greg Smith made a very inspiring and motivational speech that stirred everyone. AUS would like to congratulate all nominees and appreciate their contribution to the university sporting community.

Second time winner EUC Indoor Cluster – Central Coast Campus was the retainer of Event of the Year. The Central Coast Indoor Cluster is the largest participated AUS event outside the EUG’s with the social program, date auction, raising over $1000 for the Australian Red cross.

University of Western Sydney Director of Sport, Shane Alvisio was the recipient of Sports Administrator of the Year. Shane’s vision of the integration of UWS’s 6 campuses and 3 sports organisations to make UWS a place where students not only graduate with an degree but also finish with an experience has finally come to pass with UWSConnect. Throughout this time he has ensured a smooth change over for staff, and maintained the culture first established in UWS Sports and Leisure (MSRA).

2004 Athens Olympic Games Australian Water Polo Team member Elise Norwood has not only achieved 80 caps for her country in her career but is this year’s winner of International / National Performance of the Year.

One of the youngest teams to compete in the NSW Netball State League 1st Division and placing 2nd overall in the regular season, the Sydney University Netball team are the undefeated EUG and AUG Netball Champions and the receiver of this years Team of the Year.

EUG Triathlon Champ and New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder Melissa Ashton took home Female Sportsperson of the Year, while Julian Dent the undefeated AUC, EUC, Australian Junior Champion took home the Male Sportsperson of the Year.

Thank you to all who attended and continued to enjoy the night early into the morning. A special thank you to Adam Spencer and Greg Smith for making the night entertaining and inspiring.

2004 Western University Sport Awards

The University of Western Australia continued its stronghold over the West taking out the coveted "Overall Winning University" in 2004 as Curtin University of Technology backed up its "Spirit of the Games" AUS award by winning the "Western Spirit" award.

The Western Spirit award was a new initiative in 2004, introduced to recognise the member university that best exhibits sportsmanship, respect for officials, presentation and team enthusiasm.

Another new initiative for 2004, the AUS west "Gold" Merit Team Awards were announced and selected during four high profile Regional Sport Championship Events. The following competitors were named in their respective sports.
