Tennis
The Event
The tennis competition at the 2019 Summer Universiade will take place on the 5-13 July at the Circolo Tennis and Caracciolo boardwalk in Napoli. Tennis has been a mandatory sport in the Summer Universiade since the first edition in Torino, in 1959. Three UniRoos competed at the 2017 Summer Universiade with their opposition including 2017 US Open winner Yung-Jan Chan from Chinese Taipei. In 2019, four UniRoos have been selected to compete in singles, doubles and team formats.
Results
Our tennis team this year went extremely well against some highly competitive players. Most notably, Kaitlin Staines (Bachelor of Psychology, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville) and Aleksa Cveticanin (Bachelor of Communications, Texas Christian University) made it to the quarter finals of the Women’s Doubles event playing extremely well against their opponents in all rounds. Congratulations to the team for their efforts in the 2019 Universiade, and we are excited to see some more competition in 2021!
