On the final day of UniSport Nationals Div 1 and Div 2 presented by UniBank, the Centenary Ball marks a time when university staff, alumni and students can come together to honour UniSport’s 100-year anniversary.
Observing UniSport’s centenary year, the event pays tribute to the unique diversity of the organisation’s history and celebrates the development and delivery of university sport across Australia over the past 100 years.
Dating back to 1921 when Sydney University Sports Union, Melbourne University Sports Union, Adelaide University Sports Union and University of Queensland Sports Union established the Australian University Sports Association (now UniSport Australia), UniSport drives student success by demonstrating the value of sport and, providing participation and competitive sporting programs at a national and international level.
Australian university student athletes have competed in every world university summer games since 1967 where noteworthy alumni, Ralph Doubell (University of Melbourne) claimed gold in Track and Field (800m) before going on to win gold at the 1968 Olympics.
More recently, UniSport competition competitors and UniRoos such as Dane Bird-Smith (The University of Queensland), Catriona Bisset (University of Melbourne) and Cate Campbell (Queensland University of Technology) are hoping to take on the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Concluding with the announcement of the 2021 Overall UniSport University Champion, the Ball will provide the perfect opportunity for Members to recognise their shared achievements.
