Australia’s Ukranian ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenk was presented with a blue and gold jersey by Sydney University Football Club (SUFC) in partnership with University of Sydney and Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness (SUSF), to be sent on to president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Sport has often been a key factor in uniting countries and people across borders in the past, with Ukrainian rugby being just one of the communities devasted by the Russian invasion. In March, Oleksi Tsibko, the former captain of the Ukraine rugby team, died defending his people near the town of Bucha.
“It’s terrible what Ukraine is enduring right now; SUFC and SUSF stand in solidarity with Ukraine at this difficult time,” said Ed Smith, CEO of Sydney Uni of Sport & Fitness (SUSF).
The presentation, organised by Micheal Clements and Hugh Dillon, took place at the University of Sydney’s Main Quadrangle. Also in attendance were Vice Chancellor Mark Scott AO, SUFC and Australian representative players Tim Clements and Emily Chancellor (pictured above).
