Road to Italy
Road to Italy appeal
In July 2019, the Italian city of Napoli will host the next Summer Universiade, one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.
Our aim is to take 300 of Australia’s top student-athletes to be part of this international competition.
Participating as an Australian UniRoo at the Summer Universiade provides a great number of benefits, in particular:
Enabling students to experience competition on the international stage;
Providing a leap forward in terms of Australia’s international competitiveness;
Encouraging and developing more student-athletes; and
Better aligning university elite sport programs with the national high performance pathway, especially towards Olympic representation.
The UniRoos challenge
We need to raise $200,000 to make this happen.
Unlike the Olympics or the Commonwealth Games teams, selection to a UniRoos team and to compete at a Summer Universiade requires the student-athlete to self-fund their place on the team. For student-athletes this could mean the difference between gaining valuable international experience or not.
Funds raised for the UniRoos will subsidise the travel and competition costs for elite student-athletes to compete on an international stage at the Summer Universiade. The impact of this funding will enable the next generation of Australian Olympic and Commonwealth Games representatives to gain vital international competition experience.
