Update from Mark Sinderberry

June was an action packed month for UniSport with the 24th edition of the Indigenous Nationals presented by BP, wrapping up yesterday.

Congratulations to the University of Technology Sydney on taking out the event for the first time in their history, at the University of Western Australia.

Showing how close and competitive the competition has become, each of the four pennants were won by a different university, contributing to a very exciting competition from a games perspective.

The Indigenous Nationals is always one to mark on the calendar as the rich and varied history of Australia’s first people is displayed throughout this event.

In 2020, the Indigenous Nationals will head back to its original birthplace of Wollotuka, at the University of Newcastle.

Beginning 25 years ago a project between thirteen students at the Wollotuka school, there will no doubt be a huge celebration come next year.

I would like to thank all of the student-athletes, team managers, staff and volunteers who contributed to the success of this event. Finally, I would like to congratulate the partnership between the University of Western Australia and the School of Indigenous Studies on their outstanding collaboration, greatly contributing to making the event possible.

The Australia UniRoos head to Italy next week to contest the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples. I would like to congratulate all our wonderful student-athletes who will take part and will no doubt do us all proud. Continuing a busy start to July for UniSport, the Nationals Div 2 competition will take place on the Gold Coast between 8-11 July.

I look forward to an impressive four days of competition and fun and look forward to seeing many of you there.
