UNSW win the 4-peat at 2019 Nationals Snow

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) have won their fourth consecutive UniSport Nationals Snow event, taking out the overall winner’s trophy at the 2019 edition in Thredbo last week.

UNSW took home seven gold, four silver and four bronze, doing enough to edge out University of Technology Sydney (UTS) who came in a very close second with seven gold, two silver and seven bronze.

UNSW claimed the overall women’s champion while UTS took out the overall men’s champion and the Spirit of the Mountain Award.

Nationals Snow 2019 kicked off on Sunday 25 August with the Rail Jam. UNSW, UTS and Australian National University (ANU) featured amongst the gold medals on day one.

Day two saw attention turn to the Giant Slalom with RMIT University (RMIT) UNSW and UTS again amongst the winners.

The cross country events saw the University of Canberra (UC) and University of Sydney (USYD) pick up their first gold medals for the event, while UNSW took out the men’s team relay, confirming their third gold medal for 2019.

Day three and the action started to heat up with the alpine slalom and slopestyle events. Of the six medals on offer, UNSW took out four golds, with ANU and UTS taking out one each.

Day four and skier cross and boarder cross action hit the slopes of Thredbo with, for the first time all meet, UNSW finishing the day empty handed.

UTS took out two gold on day four to keep the pressure on UNSW at the top with Melbourne University (MELB) and RMIT taking home one each.

On the final day, super G and moguls took centre stage with UNSW doing enough to secure a fourth straight overall champions trophy.
