For the 19th consecutive year, UniSport Australia (UniSport) received nominations from its university members from around Australia to recognise and reward outstanding achievements and performances from student-athletes and officials in the Australian and International sport sectors. This year there were three additional categories included in the awards to showcase the contributions of student volunteers, social media campaigns and outstanding photography from a Nationals event. A total of 79 nominations were received acknowledging the incredible achievements of Australia’s student athletes and officials.
UniSport would like to thank the following people for their support and involvement with the selection process: David Culbert (Commonwealth Games Australia), Phil Borgeaud (Volleyball Australia), Sophie Curtis (Macquarie University), Michael McKnight (Australian College of Physical Education) and Mark Sinderberry (UniSport Australia).
Congratulations to the 2019 UniSport Australia Sports Award winners:
Most Outstanding Sporting Achievement by a Student-Athlete: Minna Atherton, Bond University.
Most Outstanding Performance by a Student-Athlete with a Disability: Jaryd Clifford, The University of Melbourne.
Most Outstanding Performance by an Indigenous Athlete: Jemma Mi Mi, Queensland University of Technology.
Female Athlete of the Year: Catriona Bisset, The University of Melbourne.
Male Athlete of the Year: Matt Denny, Griffith University.
Team of the Year: Men’s Football Team, University of Wollongong.
Official of the Year (tied): Tyler Miller, The University of Western Australia & Peter Rowe, University of South Australia.
Most Outstanding Contribution by a Student Volunteer: Tyson Lingham, RMIT University.
Community Leadership: Casey Sims, Queensland University of Technology.
Most Outstanding Social Media Campaign: RMIT University.
