La Trobe led by two at half-time after a first half featuring 21 lead changes. Then the University of Newcastle completely transformed the contest.

UON won the third quarter 27–12 and the fourth 26–9, outscoring LTU 53–21 after the break. A massive 28-point scoring run powered Newcastle to a 97–67 road victory.

Eddy Jennings led UON with 22 points, while Jude Jennings recorded 19 points, 13 rebounds and six steals. Alex Bailey added 10 points, eight rebounds and 12 assists.

Benjamin Plesa scored 21 points for La Trobe.
