With the 2026 New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) season heading towards its final rounds, Round Six produced plenty of drama, including an overtime thriller, crucial wins and high-scoring performances.
The round featured 16 games across four days and four states, with several narrow finishes and key results shaping the final stages before the quarterfinals.
Round Six kicked off at Monash University’s Clayton Campus with a thriller between Monash and the Curtin Carnabys (Curtin University). The men’s contest went into overtime after the scores were level 74-all at the end of the fourth quarter, with Curtin holding on for a tight 90-91 victory. Monash then responded in the women’s game with a dominant 102-52 win.
At Ross Milbourne Sports Hall, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) faced the Fed Falcons (Federation University). UTS secured a commanding 111-58 win in the men’s game before the Falcons hit back in the women’s contest to take the game 66-78.
Over on the West Coast at the UWA Sport and Recreation Centre, the UWA Maali (The University of Western Australia) took on UNSW Sydney. UWA secured its first women’s win of the 2026 UBL season with a 79-40 victory, while UNSW took out the men’s match up 85-91.
At Curtin Stadium, the Curtin Carnabys faced the AU Waatu (Adelaide University). Adelaide claimed the women’s game 66-81 before the men’s contest produced one of the round’s biggest comebacks. Curtin led 52-33 at half-time, but Adelaide fought back strongly in the second half to secure an 85-88 victory.

At La Trobe Sports Stadium, La Trobe University took on the University of Tasmania (UTAS). UTAS secured a high-scoring 51-105 victory in the men’s game before also taking out the women’s contest 79-85 to complete the double.
The UniSC Arena then hosted the UniSC Mari (University of the Sunshine Coast) and VU Vultures (Victoria University) as part of Inclusion Round. UniSC secured the women’s match up 78-66 before also claiming the men’s 86-74 to secure wins in both games.
Over in Sydney, the Ross Milbourne Sports Hall played host to the highly anticipated Sydney Derby between UTS and The University of Sydney (USYD), known as the Battle of Broadway. USYD conquered Broadway in the Friday night blockbuster, claiming the women’s game 63-69 and the men’s 76-92.

Round Six closed at the Nona Lee Sports Centre, where The University of Melbourne faced Monash University. Melbourne secured the double at home, taking the women’s game 76-71 and backing it up in the men’s 97-84.
After Round Six of the 2026 UBL season, USYD has reclaimed the top spot on the overall men’s leaderboard, with the University of Newcastle moving down into second. In the women’s competition, Adelaide continue to lead overall, with UniSC moving into second place.
By conference, USYD leads the men’s North East, while The University of Melbourne is at the top of the South West. For the women, UniSC now leads the North East Conference, and Adelaide remain at the top of the South West.
With the quarterfinals approaching and one more week remaining in the regular season, every result counts. For some teams, Round Seven will be their final opportunity to secure a place in the finals, while others have already booked their spot in the next stage of the 2026 UBL season.
