New Balance University Basketball League: Round Seven Wrap-Up  

Round Seven marked the final week of the 2026 New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) regular season, with crucial results on the line as teams looked to secure their place in the quarterfinals. 

The final round featured twelve games across three days and three states, including a top-of-the-table clash, two state rivalries and high-scoring matches. 

For some teams, it was the final opportunity to push into the next stage, while others had already secured their place in the top eight.  

Round Seven got underway at NUsport at The Forum, where the University of Newcastle faced UNSW Sydney. Newcastle secured the women’s game 57-52, before UNSW claimed the men’s contest 69-81. 

Kicking off day two, Newcastle then took on the AU Waatu (Adelaide University). The home side secured the men’s game 82-74, while Adelaide responded in the women’s match with a 62-71 victory. 

At the Fed Sport and Recreation Centre, the Fed Falcons (Federation University) welcomed Monash University. Monash produced a strong performance in the men’s contest, securing a high-scoring 76-117 victory before completing the double with a 40-88 win in the women’s game. 

The City of Sydney Basketball Association then hosted a Sydney derby between UNSW Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). UTS secured the women’s game 61-80 before also taking out the men’s match 84-112. 

At the Nona Lee Sports Centre, The University of Melbourne and The University of Sydney (USYD) met in a top-of-the-table clash. Melbourne secured the women’s game 64-37 before also taking out the men’s contest 102-79 to complete a strong showing across both games. 

Round Seven closed at the UWA Sport and Recreation Centre with the highly anticipated West Coast Derby between the UWA Maali (The University of Western Australia) and the Curtin Carnabys (Curtin University). UWA secured the women’s game 83-59 before Curtin claimed the men’s contest 60-94 to split the results. 

The Ladder After Round Seven 

After the final round of the regular season, The University of Melbourne has moved into top spot on the overall men’s leaderboard, with the University of Newcastle in second. In the women’s competition, Adelaide remains first overall, with The University of Melbourne in second place. 

By conference, Newcastle leads the men’s North East Conference, while Melbourne sits at the top of the South West. In the women’s competition, UniSC leads the North East Conference, with Adelaide leading the South West. 

With the regular season now complete, attention turns to the final’s rounds.

After a one-week break for the UniSport Nationals from 26 September – 02 October, the 2026 New Balance UBL quarterfinals will commence the following week.
