UBL22 heads into its last week before finals

Week 7 tipped off with UWA Maali dominating their games on home soil against the Fed Falcons, with wins for both men 121-41 and women 69-34.

Determined to continue their winning season, The University of Sydney men’s team led the game and finished with an impressive 109-77 against Victoria University. Special mention to #8 Parker Dale (Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Advanced Studies) of The University of Sydney scoring an impressive 16 points and 12 total rebounds.

The women’s game proved to be an exciting match to watch with Victoria University fighting hard to the end to secure the win 63-60. Standing out for the women’s match was #10 Grace Watson (Bachelor of Youth Work/Bachelor of Sport Management) of Victoria University achieving 18 points, 8 total rebounds and 5 assists.

To conclude the matches for day one we saw University of Technology Sydney against The University of Melbourne, with the UTS squad claiming wins in both the men’s game 90-80 and the women’s 70-46 games.

Heading into the second day of week 7 the Curtin Uni Carnabys dominated on court against the Fed Falcons with both men 117-42 and women 98-60 finishing with strong wins. #14 Shenae Hartree (Bachelor of Health Science) of Curtin Uni Carnabys stole the show and scored 29 points and 15 total rebounds for the home team.

The La Trobe University teams travelled north to the Sunshine Coast to match up against USC Spartans. Showing tremendous talent in both games, the La Trobe University women continued their dominance at the top of the ladder with a 102-54 win against the USC Spartans. The USC Spartans men made a good comeback for the home team but La Trobe University were too strong in the end 84-76.

Hoping to clutch another victory this week, the home team UTS faced Victoria University, two rivals aiming to win and maintain their positions in the top 4. The Victoria University women clinched victory against a strong UTS team, showing they are in form and hungry for a spot in the semi-finals winning 70-64. #4 Ebony Sans (Bachelor of Psychological Studies) of Victoria University had a great performance with 28 points, 5 total rebounds and 4 blocks.The UTS and Victoria University men produced an epic match, with both sides ahead throughout the game. UTS finished strong in the last quarter taking the victory 80-66. A special mention goes to #11 Archer Woodhill (Bachelor of Property Economics) from UTS for his thrilling performance scoring 21 points and 9 total rebounds.

To finish off the day was the old university rivalry between The University of Sydney and The University of Melbourne take the court on Sydney’s home court. The women’s game proved to be one to watch with The University of Sydney fighting hard against a resistant Melbourne University, eventually securing the victory 64-61. The University of Sydney men proved they are the team to beat this season, capping off the second win for their week 104-81. They now sit at the top of the men’s ladder.

UWA Maali welcomed Curtin Carnabys for the last games of week 7 and the local derby. Curtin Carnabys proved too strong in the women’s match taking the win 67-49 but the tables were turned in the men’s match with UWA Maali taking the night’s tally to one game apiece winning 87-69.

With only one week before the 2022 UBL finals commence all positions at the top of the ladder are up for grabs so teams will be working hard to secure a top 4 position in order to progress to the UBL finals series.
