Western Sydney University wins The Tom O’Sullivan Spirit Trophy

Western Sydney University (WS) students have put in the best all round performance at the 2019 UniSport Nationals, taking out the 2019 Tom O’Sullivan Spirit Award.

UniSport Project manager Natalie Broom praised WS for their commitment to supporting their teams as well the competition throughout the week.

“As this award is voted on by match officials, UniSport Australia competition organisers and the 39 competing universities at the UniSport Nationals Div 2, this truly is reflective of Western Sydney Universities unmatched fair play and sportsmanship,” she said.

The WS university team had 131 student athletes competing at the UniSport Nationals Div 2 on the Gold Coast this week, with team manager Brendan Hoey delighted with the variation of teams that competed.

“Our teams include basketball, hockey, football, futsal, netball, tennis and volleyball,” he said.

“I am so excited and proud of our team, it has been a big week up here on the Gold Coast, we have been getting behind our team and constantly supporting each other.”

WS female team captain Kristen Chadrawy, echoed Brendan’s words, commending her teams exceptional culture.

“Winning this award is a representation of the great culture we have at WS university,” she said.

Male team captain Tyler Emerton agreed.

“Team spirit is something we are always pushing for at WS, to finally come through and win this award is really important to us,” he said.

With the UniSport Nationals Div 2 wrapped up for another year, we look to Nationals Div 1 in September and October.
