James Cook University

James Cook University (JCU), established in 1961 in Townsville and named after the explorer Captain James Cook, has campuses in North Queensland and Singapore. JCU is Australia’s tropical research specialist, serving around 25,000 students.

JCU is world-leading in marine biology, tropical ecology, and tourism management. The Australian Institute of Marine Science partnership and the Cairns Institute drive field-based research on coral reefs, climate resilience and Indigenous heritage.

JCU Sport & Recreation’s Sports Stadium in Townsville includes indoor courts, a fitness centre and a 50m pool. Outdoor ovals, a multi-use synthetic field and the C.R. Bell Aquatic Centre support clubs in rugby, soccer and swimming, plus community health and fitness programs.
