Monash University brought movement and music together in a spectacular celebration of fitness, community, and wellbeing with the return of Zumba After Dark last month at the Caufield campus, hosting the biggest dance party of the semester with more than 430 participants.
The event transformed Chisholm Hall into a glowing, UV-lit dance party, inviting students, staff, and the wider community to embrace the power of dance for a night. Led by vibrant Zumba instructors and fueled by music from the 80s to today’s hits, dance styles ranged from Latin and Salsa to Bollywood and Hip Hop. Designed to make movement fun and accessible for everyone, Zumba After Dark offered a unique opportunity to try something new in a supportive, inclusive environment for both beginners and seasoned dancers.
With free entry, the event served as a vibrant display of Monash University’s commitment to making life at university more active, balanced and social. The event aimed to spark sustained interest in Monash Sport’s group fitness offerings whilst fostering a sense of community through a shared wellness experience, encouraging participation in physical activity within a supportive, inclusive environment and the comfort of it being a glow-in-the-dark event. Since the dance party, group fitness classes, particularly Zumba, have seen a surge in attendance.
Now in its seventh year, Zumba After Dark continues to grow, inspiring Monash University’s students and staff to move, connect and embrace wellbeing in style. The event perfectly captured the spirit of Monash University’s approach to health and wellbeing, blending excitement, accessibility, and community into one unforgettable evening of dance and connection.
