About UniSport Australia

UniSport Australia (UniSport) is the peak governing body of university sport in Australia.

We promote and foster the importance of university sport as an integral part of university life at 43 member universities, who collectively represent more than one million students nationwide.

Our primary focus is providing expertise and leadership in university sport. We deliver and integrate national policy that enhances and facilitates opportunities for competitive participation in sport for students at regional, national and international levels. We also lobby and represent the voice of our members and the sporting needs of Australia's university students.

In coordination with our members, and state and national sporting organisations, we operate an array of regional, national and international sporting programs. With more than 40 sports in national championship format, UniSport hosts some of the largest and most highly anticipated university sporting competitions in the Australian sporting calendar and represent the pinnacle of student-athlete participation nationally.

International pathways and member services

UniSport is responsible for the participation of student-athletes at an international level during the elite Summer and Winter Universiades taking place biennually, as well as at more than 40 International University Sport Federation (FISU) World University Championships worldwide.

Student-athletes representing Australia at such events are known as ‘UniRoos’ and are recognised as some of the nation’s most talented athletes. Any student currently enrolled in a degree, diploma, certificate or higher award at an educational institution affiliated with UniSport is eligible to compete in the program. With an extensive list of former UniRoos going on to compete and medal at Olympic and Commonwealth Games, play high-level professional sport, and become globally renowned athletes, the program is an excellent platform for future sporting success.

Furthermore, we also focus on providing a broad range of supplementary activities, advocacy and services for our members. These include innovative alliances between corporate and university sport sectors as well as professional development opportunities such as an annual national conference bringing together members, partners, and experts for a range of educational and interactive development opportunities relevant to university sport.

A localised approach

Our head office is located in Brisbane with a number of satellite offices located in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast to provide local, regional and national services to members. The organisation takes pride in its localised approach and believe it is a major contributor to active engagement with members all year round.

By upholding an internationally renowned high standard of informative and professional support for its members and sporting community, UniSport Australia continues to maintain and cultivate Australia’s rich sporting culture.
