Australian UniRoos team announced for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games

UniSport Australia (UniSport) are excited to announce the team to represent the Australian UniRoos at the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, USA from 12-22 January 2023.

The team is comprised of 25 student-athletes and 10 officials, completing one of the biggest teams in history that Australia has sent to a FISU Winter University Games (formerly known as Winter Universiade).

The Australian UniRoos contingent will see four student-athletes competing in Alpine Skiing, three representing in Biathlon, nine student-athletes competing in Cross Country Skiing, five women competing in the Curling team, one competitor in Figure Skating, one South Australian student in Freestyle Skiing, and two Snowboard competitors.

The 11-day event will see the top student-athletes from across the world competing at the highest level outside of the Winter Olympics, with over 50 countries represented by 1500 student-athletes from over 600 universities.

Leading the Australian delegation as Chef de Mission is Ian Fitzpatrick, UWA Sport General Manager who comes with extensive experience in the role following his appointment as Chef de Mission for the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyark, Russia.

To complement the Australian student-athletes, there will be eight sport officials accompanying the team to Lake Placid as well as the experience of the 2019 Summer Universiade Team Doctor Kathy Yu who has a depth of experience in high performance athlete care.

“With Olympians such as Tahli Gill (Bachelor of Education, Queensland University of Technology), Seve de Campo (Bachelor Engineering (Hons)/Commerce, Australian National University) and Katie Parker (Bachelor of Business Administration, The University of Utah), as well as a large number of athletes from the Australian national team, we can’t wait to follow their results in January.

“It was disappointing for the athletes to have the Lucerne 2021 edition cancelled, so we are extremely excited to see the UniRoos back in action and in numbers that we haven’t seen in this event before.”
