Dive into League of Legends this weekend

Nationals League of Legends commences this weekend, with 30 teams from both Australia and New Zealand striving to become Oceanic University Champions.

2020 marks the fourth year the competition has been held in conjunction with Riot Games Oceania, and the third year since League of Legends has been recognised as one of UniSport’s 40 Nationals sports. The tournament is open to all universities in the Oceania region, with the highest placed Australian team taking home the coveted Nationals Div 1 pennant.

Participation in Esports continues to grow across the globe, and this tournament is no different. Since its inception in 2016, participation has grown 25%.

Four different universities have previously tasted glory, with Monash University (2016), The University of Western Australia (2017), UNSW Sydney (2018) and The University of Auckland (2019)* all back again in 2020 aiming to secure a second title.

The top placed team represents Oceania at the International Collegiate Championship, assuming it goes ahead due to the current COVID-19 crisis.

The Oceania University Championships is played online from the safety of players’ own homes, with selected National round matches being streamed via Riot Games’ Twitch and YouTube channels.
