Adelaide Waatu appeared to have stunned the defending champions when their final attempt dropped as time expired. However, the shot was ruled to have been released after the full-time siren, allowing UTAS to escape South Australia with a dramatic 72–71 victory.

AU entered the fourth quarter leading 59–56, but UTAS responded by winning the final term 16–12.

Phoenix Robey led the champions with 25 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. Ayual Garang scored 29 points for AU, while Matthew Thomson recorded 16 points and 17 rebounds.
