Men’s game
After a dominant start from the University of Melbourne, Victoria University pegged back a 17-point deficit at quarter-time to only trail by two at the half. Mayuol Makuac (27p, 5r, 5a) and Deng Agoth (20p, 7r) leading the comeback for VU. Melbourne regained authority in the third, VU unable to stop Wilson Amos (28p, 17r) from mid-range and the bigs of Garnaut (12p, 9r) and Power (10p, 12r) inside, with Winged Victory holding on to win a high-scoring encounter by 7 points.
Women’s game
It was a tightly contested game in the Nona Lee Sports Centre, with the lead changing between the University of Melbourne and Victoria University 18 times. Melbourne’s Kayla Salmonds (16p, 13r) and Meera Coburn (8p, 12r) proved to be a problem early, while Amelia Dent (11p, 11r) and Chelsea Suemai (11p, 6r) kept VU in touch. A late spark from both Lara Essex (13p) and Ruby Nicks (10p, 2 threes) helped Melbourne pull away in the last to claim a 9 point win. #unimelb #vicuni #VU #ubl2025
