UniSport Nationals return to the Gold Coast in 2025. Find out more
Posted 16th July 2021
readUniSport Australia (UniSport) will postpone the 2021 UniSport Nationals T20 Cricket and Surfing championships, which were due to be hosted on the Sunshine Coast from 9-12 August 2021.
The decision to postpone the event was made in light of the current COVID-19 outbreaks and lockdowns in the Greater Sydney region and Victoria, which is preventing a large number of universities being assured they can travel to Queensland for the competition dates.
The decision has been made following consultation with major event sponsors, Sunshine Coast Council and Visit Sunshine Coast, key stakeholders, and member universities. The safety of our staff, participants, volunteers, officials and local community within our host destinations remains the highest priority during this time. UniSport would like to express gratitude for their understanding, patience, and continued support.
“The decision to reschedule our event was taken to ensure the health and wellbeing of our members and their students and the success of the event. We want to ensure our participants gain the best experience at Nationals not only in the competitions but through their time spent in the host region. Postponing the event will allow us to do this” said Mark Sinderberry CEO, UniSport Australia.
UniSport is working closely with competition venues and the Sunshine Coast Council to reschedule the championships to later this year and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
All registration fees paid to date will be refunded as per the UniSport Participant Refund and Withdrawal guideline. Participants will be required to re-register for the new dates once confirmed.
At this stage, the remaining UniSport Nationals events including Snow, League of Legends and Nationals Div 1 and Div 2 presented by UniBank are scheduled to run as planned. UniSport continues to monitor the local, state and national government advice regarding actions being taken to minimise the impact of COVID-19 in the community. All updates will be provided via our website and major announcements will be sent directly to all students, members and stakeholders via email.
