readRound Three of the 2025 New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) proved to be another action-packed week, featuring dominant displays, high-scoring battles, and standout performances throughout sixteen games across four states.
Round Three began with the Curtin Carnaby’s (Curtin University) hosting La Trobe University at Curtin Stadium. The women started off with a thriller, as Curtain first took the lead before La Trobe moved ahead in the second quarter and kept the home team chasing, as La Trobe player Kayla Vitale (Bachelor of Psychology with Honours) lit up the second term to put up six three-pointers to swing the momentum. The score evened out to 70-all in the fourth quarter, with the Curtin Carnabys battling it out to the end but their buzzer-beater attempt hit the backboard, giving La Trobe the victory 74-72. The men’s matchup was also an action-packed game as the two teams stayed level for most of it, but it was the home team who began to edge ahead, building a slim lead only for the visitors to have a comeback in the fourth quarter and even the score 80-all. In the end, it was the Curtin Carnabys who held their nerve, claiming a narrow 95-93 victory. Last season’s MVP Lachlan Bertram (Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, Curtin University) put on a show for the home crowd, scoring 55 points in one of the most remarkable individual performances in UBL history.
