New Balance University Basketball League Grand Finals to be broadcast live and free on 7plus

UniSport Australia is pleased to announce that the 2026 New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) Women’s and Men’s Grand Finals will be streamed live and free on 7plus, marking a significant milestone in the competition’s six-year history.

The Women’s Grand Final will take place on Thursday 15 October, followed by the Men’s Grand Final on Tuesday 20 October, giving basketball fans across Australia the opportunity to watch the league’s biggest matches of the season.

Since its introduction in 2021, the UBL has continued to develop as a national university basketball competition, with the standard of play improving and interest from students, universities and basketball fans growing each season.

Now in its sixth year, the league has established itself as an important part of the university sporting calendar, providing a competitive national platform for some of Australia’s emerging basketball talent.

UniSport Australia CEO Mark Sinderberry said the agreement with 7plus represented an important step forward for both the league and university sport more broadly.

“Having our Grand Finals broadcast live and free on 7plus is a significant achievement for the UBL and a reflection of how far the competition has come in six years,” Mr Sinderberry said.

“The commitment from our participating universities has been central to the league’s growth, and this opportunity allows us to showcase university sport to a much wider audience.

“We’re proud of what the UBL has become and excited about what this means for its future.”

For La Trobe University Women’s UBL Team Vice Captain Talia D’Agostino, the announcement reflects the progress she has experienced firsthand as a player.

“It’s exciting to see how far the UBL has come and to now have our Grand Finals shown live on 7plus. The standard of basketball has improved so much, and every season I play the competition seems to get tougher,” D’Agostino said.

“As players, we put a lot into representing our universities, so having the opportunity to showcase that on a platform like 7plus is a big deal. Hopefully it encourages more people to follow university basketball and see just how good the competition has become.”

The 2026 season has continued that progression, with new teams joining the competition and another closely contested regular season setting the stage for the Finals.

With the championship titles on the line, the two Grand Finals will bring the sixth season of the New Balance University Basketball League to a close.
