readDeakin University psychology student Eziyoda Magbegor addressed the media along with Napoli 2019 ambassador Massimiliano Rosolino and diver Lauren Reedy of the US for the opening press conference of the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade yesterday.
The 19-year-old is looking forward to the competition. Although this is her first World University Games she is not new to international competition as she was a part of the Commonwealth Games gold medal winning Opals and was recently drafted 12th overall in the WNBA by the Seattle Storm.
“What I’m most excited about is competing against a range of countries and some of the best athletes in the world, in this amazing atmosphere,” Magegor said.
As the defending champions from 2017 the Emerging Opals have a target on their back as the team to beat.
“We can’t take anything for granted,” Magegor told the media.
“There are definitely a lot of teams that are bringing a lot of talent so we just have to bring our best every game and hopefully we can come away with a gold medal.”
The Emerging Opals kick off their competition ahead of the Opening Ceremony tomorrow, 3 July, against Finland at 1pm CEST at Pala Cercola.
