Australia’s UniRoos are ready to make their mark on the international stage as the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games officially get underway in Germany, with the student-athletes excited to represent Australia across a wide range of sports.
Leading the team into the opening ceremony is Arnav Raja, who has been named as Australia’s flag bearer. Arnav, a sabreur in the fencing team, embodies the spirit of dedication that defines the UniRoos.
Currently in his third year studying a Bachelor of Cognitive Science at the University of California, San Diego, Arnav is a dual-program athlete, competing through both his university and the Fencing Australia pathway. Ranked inside the world’s top 100 (95th), Arnav recently achieved a 14th placed finish at the 2025 Asian Championships and will head straight from Germany to the World Fencing Championships in Georgia, capping off a demanding and high-level international campaign.
No stranger to the World University Games, Arnav also competed in Chengdu 2023, where he placed second in his pool and secured a final ranking of 27th. This is the final year Arnav is eligible to compete in the World University Games, so he has made this competition a personal priority, and his commitment to representing Australia is unmatched.
