The Australian UniRoos (UniRoos) teams have been selected to compete at the 2026 FISU World University Rugby Sevens Championship, with student-athletes from ten Australian universities set to represent the green and gold in Stellenbosch, South Africa, from 4–6 September 2026.

The championship will bring together university Rugby Sevens teams from around the world for three days of international action, with Australia contesting in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The UniRoos will face a strong international field, consisting of South Africa, Canada, Japan, Argentina, France, Mexico, Ireland, USA, Chile, Norway, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Botswana.

They will be looking to build on their performances from the 2024 FISU World University Rugby Sevens Championship, where the women’s team finished fourth and the men placed fifth.

Head of Delegation Tameka Collins and Team Manager Sarah Hynes will oversee the UniRoos, with Women’s Head Coach James Erwin and Assistant Coach Nathan Spooner, and Men’s Head Coach Daniel Nethery and Assistant Coach Campbell Thomson, leading the squads throughout their campaign in Stellenbosch.

Support The UniRoos

Representing the UniRoos on the world stage at a FISU World University Championship is a significant opportunity for these students who have dedicated years of training to reaching this level. However, travelling internationally to compete can also create additional financial pressures, with most of the trip being self-funded by the students.

A fundraising page has been established through the Australian Sports Foundation to help reduce the financial burden for the UniRoos as they prepare to represent Australia in Stellenbosch.
