Three days of fast-paced action, clutch shooting and high-energy competition came to a close in the nation’s capital as 47 teams from across Australia competed at the 2026 UniSport 3x3Hustle Uni Nationals in Canberra.
Brilliantly hosted by the University of Canberra and delivered in partnership with 3x3Hustle, the event saw hundreds of matches played across an action-packed championship, with student-athletes battling it out for national honours across men’s and women’s Division 1, Division 2 and the newly introduced mixed open wheelchair competition.
The tournament once again showcased the continued growth of 3×3 basketball in the university sport landscape, combining high-level competition with the fast, social and energetic atmosphere that has become synonymous with the format.
Adding to the atmosphere across the three days was the energy and support shown by universities throughout the championship. Voted on by university managers, staff and event crew, the 2026 UniSport 3x3Hustle Uni Nationals Spirit Award was presented to UNSW Sydney for the enthusiasm and support they brought throughout the event.

Wheelchair 3×3 Makes Strong Debut
3×3 wheelchair basketball made a strong debut at the 2026 UniSport 3x3Hustle Uni Nationals, with the event taking an important step forward for inclusive competition through the introduction of a mixed open division.
Teams from the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), two sides from the Australian National University, and a combined Macquarie University and The University of Western Australia team competed across the opening two days of the championship.
UniSport Australia General Manager – Nationals, Christine Voge, said the inclusion of wheelchair teams added another important dimension to the event.
“It was fantastic to have four mixed wheelchair basketball teams as part of the 3×3 competition this year for the first time,” Voge said.
“The teams included a combination of students with disabilities and reverse inclusion participants, with athletes of varying experience levels coming together to compete, learn and build new friendships through sport.”
The wheelchair final saw the combined MQ/UWA team defeat UniSC in a narrow 10-8 contest, while ANU’s first team claimed third place with an 8-6 win over ANU2.

Champions and National Champions Crowned in Division 1 and 2 Finals
After three days of intense competition in Canberra, the finals delivered a fitting end to the 2026 UniSport 3x3Hustle Uni Nationals, with close contests, momentum swings and standout performances across both divisions.
Monash University capped off a dominant Division 2 campaign by claiming both the men’s and women’s titles.
In the women’s final, the host side from the University of Canberra fought back strongly after falling behind early, lifting the energy around the courts as they attempted to close the gap. But Monash remained composed in the key moments, converting several important baskets late to secure an 18-13 victory.
The Monash men followed soon after, producing one of the highest-scoring games of the finals in a fast-paced clash with Deakin University. With both teams attacking aggressively, Monash eventually pulled away to claim a 21-14 win and complete the Division 2 double.
Division 1 brought an even higher level of intensity, with both grand finals remaining in the balance until the closing stages.
The women’s championship decider between UniSC and The University of Sydney (USYD) was one of the tightest contests of the tournament. Neither side was able to create significant separation throughout the match, with momentum shifting repeatedly between the two teams. In the end, UniSC found the crucial late scores they needed to edge out USYD 14-12 and secure the national title.
The final game of the championship delivered another thriller, as USYD and Deakin battled in a high-quality men’s Division 1 grand final. Played at a relentless pace, the match featured big shots, defensive pressure and several near-misses that could easily have changed the outcome. USYD ultimately held their nerve in the closing moments to secure a narrow 20-18 victory and finish the tournament as national champions.
