The UniSport MyWay program was launched in April 2022 with the goal to increase participation in grassroots physical activity and sport on university campuses across the country. We are pleased to announce that 40,000 engaged in the program this year.
Funded by the Australian Government through Sport Australia’s Participant Grant Program, UniSport MyWay has supported member universities to deliver easily accessible, inclusive, and high-quality activities which assist to break down the barriers to developing active and healthy habits for life.
New activities ranged from ultimate frisbee, spike ball, wheelchair basketball and Aikido, to a campus amazing race, picnic games and a multi-campus move-a-thon. The MyWay program helped 30 universities deliver bespoke activity programs at 69 campuses across Australia and encouraged participants to take up regular activity within their local community.
UniSport MyWay was accessible to all but specifically aimed to engage a number of audiences including students not already active; women and girls; people with a disability; culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) peoples; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples; and the general population.
In addition to this, the Student Ambassador program was integral to the delivery of the UniSport MyWay program, aiming to help increase the capacity of member universities to deliver sport and activity programs on campus. 53 Student Ambassadors from 24 universities were engaged, with the program designed to provide personal and professional development through the training provided and experience in delivering activity programs and managing ongoing participation opportunities.
“This program has put me out of my comfort zone but I quickly adapted, learnt and absorbed so many skills from running social sport, networking, promoting and getting to know other sports lovers on campus. I feel I have learnt a lot and am ready to play a key role in social sport activities or programs for the following years to come.”
Aleisha Howey, UniSport MyWay Student Ambassador, University of the Sunshine Coast
This project received funding from the Australian Government through Sport Australia and UniSport would like to acknowledge and thank them for their support.
