readRecords tumbled and rivalries ignited on an electric opening day of the UniSport Nationals Athletics Championship, as university student athletes from across Australia brought their best to the Gold Coast.
Under pristine skies and surrounded by the roar of teammates and fans, two championship records highlighted an unforgettable start to the three-day meet.
Victoria’s Tiana Boras (Deakin University) was the first to etch her name into UniSport history, soaring to 13.06m in the women’s triple jump. The leap not only secured gold but also broke the previous UniSport Nationals Athletics Championship mark, cementing Boras’ place among the event’s elite.
Later in the day, the crowd erupted as the Western Sydney University 4 x 400m mixed relay team delivered a showstopping performance, clocking 3:32.24 to set a new championship benchmark and claim gold. Their speed, teamwork, and execution capped off an impressive day of athletics action.
In total, Day 1 was a showcase of emerging talent, personal bests, and university pride. Strong statements were made, multiple golds medals won, records broken and gauntlets were laid down for the rest of the week.
