The Competition
There will be two disciplines of gymnastics at the Chengdu 2021 World University Games: The rhythmic gymnastics will take place over 3 days from 29 July to 31 July at the Chengdu Sport University Gymnasium. The artistic component will take place over 5 days, from 1-5 August at the Dong'an Lake Sports Park Multi-Purpose Gymnasium in Chengdu, China.
Artistic gymnastics was added to the programme of the Summer Universiade in 1961 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Due to increasing prominence, the first individual rhythmic gymnastics world championship was held in 1963 in Budapest, just two decades before it made its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 1984. This step was also essential for its inclusion in the programme of the Summer Universiade, where rhythmic gymnastics was added in 1991 at the Universiade in Sheffield.
Check out the Rhythmic Gymnastics and Artistic Gymnastics sport pages for more information.
