The Competition
FISU and the Organising Committee have postponed this event to 2023.
There were to be two disciplines of gymnastics at the World University Games: the artistic component was to take place over 5 days, from 29 June to 3 July at the Dong'an Lake Sports Park Multi-Purpose Gymnasium in Chengdu, China. The rhythmic gymnastics was to take place over 3 days from 27 June to 29 June at the Chengdu Sport University Gymnasium.
Artistic gymnastics was added to the programme of the Summer Universiade in 1961 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Due to increasing prominence, the first individual rhythmic gymnastics world championship was held in 1963 in Budapest, just two decades before it made its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 1984. This step was also essential for its inclusion in the programme of the Summer Universiade, where rhythmic gymnastics was added in 1991 at the Universiade in Sheffield.
