Yet More Records Fall and Milestones Mark Day Two of UniSport Nationals Athletics 2026

Day two of UniSport Nationals Athletics delivered a mix of elite performance, record-breaking moments and significant personal milestones, as competition intensified across the program.

In one of the standout moments of the day, Roman Anastasios (University of Melbourne) claimed gold in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 2.24m. During the medal ceremony, he was also presented with his Australian Athletics representative bib (No. 1260), recognising his achievement in representing Australia on the international stage.

Across the track, qualification standards remained front of mind, with the University of Queensland’s Callen Jensen stepping up to race the U20 hurdles height (99cm) as part of his progression towards Australian Athletics qualification benchmarks.

The women’s 400m podium reflected the growing international presence at the event, with New Caledonia University representative Loane Ville securing a place among the medalists, continuing the strong contribution from visiting athletes.

Sprint events again drew attention, with the men’s 100m producing a notable result as Josh Lotsu (UNSW Sydney) equalled the UniSport Nationals record of 10.26 (4.1)*, matching the benchmark previously set by Jai Gordon.

Records were a defining feature of the day, particularly across the hurdles and para-athletics program. Austin Little (University of Sydney, USYD) set a new championship record in the men’s 110m hurdles, clocking 13.74 (0.6), while multiple new marks were established in para events. Sybella Warton (University of Technology Sydney, UTS, T37) set a new women’s PA 200m record (30.75), Sarah Clifton-Bligh (USYD, T33) established a new women’s wheelchair 800m record (3:23.45), and Ori Drabkin (La Trobe University, T37) recorded a new men’s PA 200m benchmark (28.11).

From a team perspective, the University of Sydney now sets the pace, leading both the men’s (71 points) and women’s (78 points) standings at the conclusion of day two, narrowly ahead of UTS in both competitions .
