Diving and Water Polo kick off #Napoli2019

Diving – On a beautiful 33-degree day four divers kicked off their 2019 Napoli Summer Universaide competition at Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples.

In the women’s 10m platform preliminary The University of Adelaide science student Nikita Hains qualified for the final in 5th with a total of 269.90 points and Purdue University health student Emily Meany just missed the final, coming in 13th with a total of 232.25 points. Olivia O’Rourke (University of Technology Sydney) finished 20th with a total of 176.20 points.

“The girls on the platform did really well especially with Nikita through to the finals,” diving coach Matthew Helm said.

“Em just narrowly missed, she had some really good tops on everything, but just missed the entry on a couple of those, which is a little bit disappointing particularly finishing 13th. But she’s got a two more events to focus on.”

University of Technology Sydney health student Nicholas Jeffree finished 25th in the men’s 1m springboard preliminary with a total score of 246.15.

The final of the 10m platform will take place on Thursday 4 July at 13:00 (CEST / 9:00 AEST). Nicholas Jeffree is back in action tomorrow with the 3m springboard at 10:00 (CEST / 18:00 AEST)

Water Polo – The Uniroos women opened their Universiade campaign with a strong 15-4 win over China in their opening match in Casoria. They take on Russia in their second match on Friday 5 July at 17:30 (CEST / 1:30 AEST). The Uniroos men dropped their opening match against Croatia 17-9, but are back in the water on Thursday 4 July against Japan at 17:30 (CEST / 1:30 AEST).
