Bond Dominates at 2025 UniSport Nationals Swimming Championships

The 2025 UniSport Nationals Swimming Championships wrapped up over the weekend as part of the Sydney Open, hosted by Swimming NSW at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC), with Bond University once again asserting its dominance in university swimming.
Bond University (Bond) claimed top honours in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions, winning all team relays and securing their fourth consecutive overall sweep of the championships.
"Nationals Swimming continues to showcase the incredible depth and diversity of talent within university sport,” Mark Sinderberry, CEO of UniSport Australia added at the conclusion of event, “from Olympians and Paralympians to emerging student-athletes, the standard of competition this year was outstanding. Congratulations to all competitors, and especially to Bond University for their remarkable performance across both the men’s and women’s competitions."
Women's Competition: Bond on Top
Bond’s women were exceptional, collecting 347 points to finish well ahead of the University of Queensland (231.5) and University of Technology Sydney (112). Their consistency across individual and team events proved too strong for the rest of the field.

Men’s Competition: Another Bond Victory
In the men’s competition, Bond also emerged victorious with 320 points, edging out the University of Queensland (278.5) and University of Technology Sydney (181). Macquarie University made a strong showing to place 7th overall, boosted by standout individual efforts.

Every swimmer played a part in making this our fourth consecutive Nationals win, and we couldn’t be prouder."
Paralympic Stars and Record-Breaking Performances
The championships saw 13 records broken, many by elite para-athletes who brought international experience and class to the event:
Isabella Vincent (The University of Queensland) broke records in the S6 200m Freestyle (4:11.58), SB6 100m Breaststroke (2:47.97), and S6 100m Backstroke (2:05.91).
Jenna Jones (University of the Sunshine Coast) was in record-breaking form across four events including SB12 100m Breaststroke (1:24.76) and S12 100m Backstroke (1:17.39).
Nicholas Layton (Monash University) starred in the S15 category, setting new benchmarks in the 100m Butterfly (57.34), 50m Freestyle (24.15), and 100m Freestyle (53.97).
Rachael Watson (The University of Queensland) delivered a record time of 1:33.48 in the S3 100m Freestyle.
Mia O’Leary (Bond University) broke the open record in the 50m Breaststroke with a 31.38 swim.
Three of the athletes breaking records; Jones, Vincent, and Watson are current or past Australian Paralympians, highlighting the depth of experience on display.

Olympic Talent in the Water
Spectators were also treated to a glimpse of Olympic gold-medal pedigree. Olivia Wunsch (Macquarie University), fresh from winning gold in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay at the Paris Olympics, claimed gold in both the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, adding star power and inspiration for all student-athletes in attendance.
Multisport Performers Shine
One of the most impressive dual-sport performances came from Anneke Van Zoggel (University of Technology Sydney), who competed at Nationals Triathlon in the women’s sprint distance triathlon last month and returned to the water for swimming. She finished with two bronze medals, 50m Backstroke and the Women’s 4x50m Freestyle Relay, showcasing her impressive versatility.
