UniSport to celebrate Unity Day at the 2023 UniSport Nationals

UniSport Australia (UniSport) is pleased to announce the inclusion of Unity Day as part of the 2023 UniSport Nationals on the Gold Coast, Queensland from 23-29 September 2023.

‘Unity Day – Celebrate with a Mate’ on Wednesday 27 September aims to increase the awareness of the importance of inclusion of all diverse groups within the university student population. The day prioritises uniting participants to foster an environment of acceptance and understanding.


UniSport Australia Chief Executive Officer, Mark Sinderberry highlights the importance of celebrating Unity Day this year. “UniSport Nationals is the perfect platform to unite our student-athletes and foster an environment of acceptance and understanding.”


“Sport is the vehicle that unites our student population, and I would encourage all participants to celebrate the diversity of our sector, where no one is excluded based on their background, beliefs, or interests” said Sinderberry.


Unity Day is a demonstrable example of UniSport’s commitment to provide a welcoming, inclusive platform as central to our approach to social inclusion. We believe in the need for fair and inclusive participation in sport. We view university sport as a powerful tool to promote inclusion and acceptance, while being an exceptional platform for student engagement for students of all backgrounds.


Central to Unity Day are the themes - Participate, Connect, Engage. University members and their competing teams are encouraged to visibility demonstrate Unity with colour, clothing and accessories and engage with other universities in several UniSport inclusive activities that are incorporated into the day.

About UniSport Nationals

UniSport Nationals provide an opportunity for students at our 42 member universities from across Australia to compete head-to-head in several national standard sporting competitions.

Nationals are comprised of our flagship event, UniSport Nationals, and several standalone national championships throughout the year.

The winners from each sport in UniSport Nationals will be combined with the winners of the various Nationals Championships throughout the year to name one university the Overall Nationals Champions.
