UBL22 hits the halfway point with only 1 month to go before finals!

The opening match of round four was kickstarted in style, with Victorian rivals The University of Melbourne and Victoria University meeting head-to-head.

The women’s match was a close one, but Victoria University put the pressure on and were able to claim a 72-50 win. The respective men’s match promptly followed suit, with Victoria University to break the hundred-point mark and take out the double 111-96. #9 Erik Kafritsas (Bachelor of Business) led the Victoria University team with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.

The Curtin Uni Carnabys came steaming out of the gate on day two, declaring a marginal victory over the RMIT men’s team 84-80 in a nail biter before building momentum and taking two from two with the Curtin Uni Carnaby women dominating RMIT 85-40. #14 Shenae Hartree (Health Science) was a standout for the Carnabys with 28 points, 16 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The final matches of day two exhibited the exciting match-up between AU Waatu and La Trobe University. Wasting no time from tip-off, La Trobe University showed their dominance to nearly triple the score of their opponents and deliver the biggest score in the women’s competition 120-42.

Not letting them have it all their own way, the AU Waatu men’s squad displayed a courageous comeback, taking a sneaky 74-69 victory over the La Trobe University team. #1 Harry Reemst (Chemical Engineering) top-scored for the game with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for AU Waatu.

Back once again to round out day three, AU Waatu used the home court to their advantage against RMIT asserting a strong win in the men’s division 85-70.

Looking to turn the tables following day two’s loss to Curtin Uni Carnabys, the RMIT women’s team took it all in stride to secure their debut win of the season 63-45.

There will be a break from the UBL for a week before teams hit the courts again on Tuesday 26 April.

Week six action will be plentiful with AU Waatu to play host to both Curtin University and Fed Falcons.

The USC Spartans will be looking to jump up from the middle of the ladder against Victorian teams Victoria University and The University of Melbourne.

RMIT and La Trobe University will both welcome University of Western Australia – all teams will be looking for wins to improve their chances of making finals in a few weeks’ time.

Top of the ladder The University of Sydney will travel to Ballarat to match up against Fed Falcons and University of Technology Sydney will also head south for games against La Trobe University and RMIT to cap off another big week of UBL action.
