Round Two wraps up with an epic battle

Round two of the 2021 University Basketball League (UBL) has finished with a bang after 10 exciting games this week!


Day one started with UWA Maali at The University of Western Australia taking on Victoria University (VU). Although the UWA Maali women started strong, VU was ultimately able to take the win 67-62.


The men’s match was also entertaining with teams evenly matched throughout the four quarters but VU losing by an agonising point against UWA Maali 86-85 (see the highlights below).

The University of Melbourne (MELB) hosted their first matches against University of Technology Sydney (UTS) at the Nona Lee Sports Centre.


Although the Melbourne teams performed admirably, both UTS teams were too strong in the end, showcasing their talents with a solid 72–62 and 88–71 finish for the women’s and men’s teams respectively.

Day two meant rivalries were ignited between MELB and The University of Sydney (USYD), and La Trobe University (LTU) and UTS.


Although playing away, both USYD teams were in great form against MELB wrapping up the win in both matches with the women winning 85-49 and the men 78-67.


LTU vs UTS saw the UTS men perform strongly despite LTU’s best efforts to make a come-back. The LTU women impressed in their defeat over UTS with a 69-53 finish showcasing some skilful shots from both teams.


In what proved to be the match of the week, LTU faced off against USYD, with the men finishing in an intense game with overtime on the clock. USYD edged ahead of LTU to win 82-77 while the USYD women soared to their second win of the competition 79-67.

After two rounds of fierce competition, next week is a break before Round 3 commences on Tuesday 4 May.

Tuesday 4 May

  • UWA Maali v LTU 11:30am (1:30pm AEST)

  • USC v UTS 2:00pm AEST

Wednesday 5 May

  • UWA v MELB 11:30am (1:30pm AEST)
